Hi, I'm Maria
founder of May Theatre Arts
I’m a professionally trained performer, qualified dance and performing arts teacher, and mum to Theo. I created May Theatre Arts to give children a warm, confidence-building space where they can learn strong technique, develop performance skills and discover the joy of performing.
Where it all began...
My love of performing began in my mum’s dance school, where I grew up dancing. I even gained professional work as a panto babe too as well as competing and performing. That early start gave me a lifelong passion for dance, performance and teaching, and eventually led me to London, where I trained professionally at Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts.
My career
Since then, I have been lucky enough to perform professionally across theatre, touring productions and television, with credits including The Cinder Path on both national and regional theatre tours, where I worked with household television personalities, principal character roles in pantomime productions including Snow White and Beauty & The Beast. I have also performed on television as a tap dancer on The One Show, working with Arlene Phillips.
Our happy ever after...
I met my husband while performing in pantomime, and after Covid we moved to my husband's home town in Scotland, where we have since settled and welcomed our little boy, Theo. Opening May Theatre Arts feels like a very special next chapter!
